Workshop Descriptions:

The Application – Your Calling Card to Employment: The application is your personal calling card with the company and will screen you in — or out! This module will illustrate how to complete a “safe” and “saleable” master application to use as reference in the future.
Assessment Orientation: This orientation will give you the basis for doing an assessment, what information it will give you, how you can use that information in your career development and job search. The orientation will also give you a listing of many Internet sites where you can conduct self-assessments on Aptitude, Interest, Personality, Work Values, Work Place Temperaments, etc.
Basic Computer Class – Learn the Software that will help you get a job! Most of Job Search is computerized these days. For example, we can apply for jobs, review job descriptions, submit resumes via technology. In order for you to best use these resources we have added a basic computer class. You will learn the basics of using the computer, such as: use the mouse, cut and paste, save, print, etc. This class will be invaluable to you in conducting your job search!
Boomers and Beyond : It is no secret that individuals are working longer and being more productive today than ever before in history. Many people well into the 60’s and 70’s are actively seeking gratifying and gainful employment. This Job Club has been designed for this group specifically to assist them in conducting the most beneficial and fruitful job search possible. Come join us for a wonderful job club designed specifically for you!
Career Exploration and Information (AZCIS): Career exploration tools using Arizona Career Information Systems (AZCIS) Website to assess your skills, interests, values and sort occupations. Includes linkages to training and education, wage trends, outlook, job banks etc. Seamless connectivity to all areas of occupational information.
Employer Seminar: This session is specifically designed to bring you face to face with area employers so they can share with you how they hire and what kinds of skills they are looking for in a successful applicant. The employers may not be hiring at present, but it is an advantage to the job seeker to know how the employer “thinks and operates” and they can give you many valuable and helpful hints and insight on how to conduct your job search. Hear it from the horse’s mouth!
Introduction to Resumes I (Resume Instruction): An effective resume will sell your skills and abilities to the extent that a potential employer will want to know more about you. Its major purpose is to get you the interview. Topics covered in this module will be how to format and develop an effective resume, how to use a resume, how to formulate professional accomplishment statements, and resume do’s and don’ts.
Job Club and Employment Edge: The Job Club is held in each center on a weekly basis. Job Club is for anyone at any level who is seeking employment. Each week a different aspect of the job search is reviewed and discussed. The Job Club provides you with a plethora of information you will want to have at your disposal, as well as providing a wonderful networking and peer supportive environment. Employment Edge brings a new dimension to Job Club---now that we have discussed the efforts we have been making in finding a job—we bring to the table a Business Workforce Specialist to discuss where the employers are and what skills are they requiring. These two dynamic aspects of Job Club tie up all of the information into one neat package—time well spent!
Professional Communication: This workshop will explore the effective and positive communication skills you can use in your professional and personal life that will guarantee success! Learn to differentiate positive and negative modes of communication.
Interview Techniques: Interviewing is the most important (but most dreaded) activity in the job search. Effective interviewing skills can be learned! In this class, you will learn how to answer tricky questions, the four components of every interview and how you can share information with the employer that they may not ask for! If you are job searching, do yourself a favor, prepare for the interview---it will mean the difference between getting hired or not. When this workshop is completed, you will know how to formulate personal, positive responses to typical tough interview questions and you will understand how to sway the interview process in your favor.
Training Information Seminar: This seminar is designed to inform you of as many training payment options as possible. Most of us would benefit from developing our skills or enhancing our knowledge---but payment for the training is the problem. Attend this short seminar and we will share with you several different options and how to access them.
Using the Internet & Labor Market Information for Your Job Search: When you are searching for a job it is important to utilize all of the available tools. One of the newest and most important tools is the Internet. This course is designed for the person who is not feeling confident about the computer much less the Internet. You will learn quick and easy tips on how to access many job banks, use search engines, reach specific web pages, and surf the web. You will get instruction in methods of accessing and utilizing labor market information for the purpose of researching careers, career exploration, and making career decisions.
Virtual One Stop (VOS) Hands-on Computer Class: This class is designed to assist you in learning all of the helpful and important tools available to you at the touch of a button. You can apply what you learn about VOS in this workshop to the privacy of your home, or anywhere you have access to the Internet! Build an effective resume; have the virtual recruiter conduct a weekly job search for you—automatically! Identify your skills and compare them to specific job requirements! A must for the serious job seeker!
Writing Your Resume II (Limited to participants in Resume I Workshop): Learn how to use the computer to write and format your resume in WinWay Resume, a program to assist you to develop your resume. Or, learn how to format your resume in MS Word. Once you have mastered your resume in the computer, you will be able to make changes and updates very easily in order to continuously keep your resume updated.
